Rumor has it that Facebook has no plans to include an Instagram app for the upcoming BlackBerry 10.
Venture Beat tells us that despite the fact that Instagram beats even Twitter in terms of daily active mobile users and Facebook’s own lucrative acquisition of the popular photo-sharing social network earlier this year, the social media giant is leaving Instagram out of RIM’s next-generation, “potentially company-saving” BlackBerry 10 platform.
Why? Well, we don’t know, but Facebook has sort of made a hobby of odd, seemingly counter-productive decision making. RIM has previously promised native versions of Facebook, Twitter, Foursquare, and LinkedIn applications for the BlackBerry 10, but let’s face it: With competition out there like the iOS and Android, BlackBerry’s future is in jeopardy, and spending too much money and effort in directing consumers back to RIM (or to them for the first time) might be considered risky on Facebook’s part. They might just be looking for the path of least resistance here.
Still, BlackBerry 10 might become an unexpected hit. If it does, Instragram may find its way to the device eventually, but the rumor that it won’t be included out of the gate shows a lack of faith in RIM’s potential for comeback.
