Lionsgate and Saban announced last night that the new Power Rangers movie will hit theaters on July 22, 2016.
Here’s the official synopsis for the new movie. “From a story by Executive Producer Roberto Orci (Transformers, Star Trek, Amazing Spider-Man 2) and screenwriters Zack Stentz and Ashley Miller (X-Men: First Class, Thor) comes a modern reinvention of the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, a group of ordinary high school kids who find themselves infused with extraterrestrial powers and must harness those powers as a team to save the world.”
The Power Rangers franchise started back in 1993. The early seasons of the TV show may have featured cheesy dialogue and some awful special effects, but the movie will be a different beast. With a big budget and some proven talent, the Power Rangers movie could be a surprise blockbuster.
Do you think Mighty Morphin Power Rangers will be a hit? If Lionsgate and Saban can bring a more serious tone to the film, coupled with some better special effects, giant robots, and awesome ninjas, they could bring in several generations of fans to the theater.
