Neil Gaiman’s novel American Gods has found a home on television.
The AV Club reports that HBO tried for three years to develop a show about Gaiman’s 2001 novel but they never got it off the ground. Now it’s Starz turn to give it a try.
Gaiman made the announcement on Facebook.
Starz has partnered with Freemantle Media, as well as producers Neil Gaiman, Bryan Fuller and Michael Green to create a series based on American Gods. The novel, which deals with old world gods trying to stay relevant in a modern world, has a massive and devoted fan base. Starz will have their work cut out for them to create a show as popular as the novel but it looks like they have the team to do it.
Carmi Zlotnik, the managing director of Starz, said: With our partners at Fremantle Media and with Bryan, Michael and Neil, we believe we can create a series that honors the book and does right by the fans and viewers.”
Are you excited for American Gods? No casting announcements have been made yet but people are already throwing around some suggestions. Unfortunately, Gaiman isn’t going to have anything to do with the casting decisions. You can send your requests to Bryan Fuller instead.
I don’t get to cast it. Not even when it’s @JMomoaOfficial RT @AlyssaJennette: Soooo, Jason Momoa as Shadow, right? #AmericanGods
