In a further move that leads me to believe NBC is phasing out all worthwhile comedy from their lineup (Sorry Black-ish), the network has announced the official premiere date for the final season of Parks And Recreation. THR is reporting The Peacock is moving the sitcom from its Thursday night time slot to Tuesdays at 8 p.m. Further, the 7th and final season will air back-to-back episodes starting on January 13th.
While NBC’s chairman Robert Greenblatt may be promoting this as a fantastic opportunity to “eventize” the season, the reality of the situation is that back-to-back episodes will find the season lasting a total of 7 weeks with the series ending by March. The original intent of the time slot shift, according to Greenblatt, was to give the hour long series finale the largest audience possible. Regardless, this move to turn the season into an “event” feels more like the network burning off another one of its comedy hits.
With a new season of Community coming to Yahoo, the canceling of the Adam McKay and Will Ferrell project Mission Control and the most recent rejection of Tina Fey’s Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, it feels like NBC is truly shifting its attention to more worthwhile fare — like a live version of Peter Pan. Yeah, I’m just as lost as you are. At least there’s new Hannibal coming.
