The MTV and BET Twitter accounts have been hacked! Wait no they haven’t! Following the account hacking of the @BurgerKing account yesterday the TV networks decided to use a similar “breaking news” format to market their networks.
Both networks are owned by Viacom and unlike yesterday’s crude Burger King hack the MTV account this time around used the tame #MTVhack hashtag.
Here was the final product from MTV. Notice how BuzzFeed and Mashable’s Christina Warren were pulled in by the rather authentic looking stunt:

With hacked Twitter accounts trending online and making national news this is likely not the last joke we will see from marketing departments at major brands.
