For many people in the Baltimore area, Mr. Trash Wheel is a staple of their life, but for the rest of us the idea of a trash wheel is still fun and strange. Mr. Trash Wheel was put in the water on May 9, 2014 and since then he’s pulled 409 tons of garbage out of Baltimore’s Inner Harbor. Included in the 409 tons are 234,820 plastic bottles and over 7.2 million cigarette butts. He’s actually part of the “Healthy Harbor” initiative which has a lot of different components but the trash wheel has got to be one of the most exciting.

But Mr. Trash Wheel is more than just a presence in Baltimore’s Inner Harbor, he’s also a presence online. He even has his own Instagram and Twitter where he lets people know what’s going on.
Why YES that is a 5′ ball python coiled around my power inverter and I AM happy to see you! ??

Recently, Mr. Trash Wheel got googly eyes that give him more of a personal feel. And he looks beautiful against the lights of the city at night.
But when one of his eyes fell off, he donned an eyepatch and decided to become a pirate. The people of Baltimore were also pleased that he looked like the Natural Bohemian guy. (Natural Bohemian or Natty Boh is Charm City’s hometown beer).

Mr. Trash Wheel also hosted a Q & A session on Reddit where he answered all the questions we could have thought of.
There are plans to put a few more Mr. Trash Wheels in other cities but right now, he’s the only one.
