Politicians are some of the
Anthony Weiner and Huma Abedin

No list on shameful divorces can be complete without including Anthony Weiner’s. The former New York Congressman first made headlines when he was caught sending sexually explicit messages to six different women through his Twitter account. This news broke not long after he married Hillary Clinton’s aide Huma Abedin in 2010, and led to his resignation. In 2013, Weiner attempted to make a comeback by running for Mayor in New York City, but his campaign was cut short when the media revealed that he was still sending inappropriate messages to women who weren’t his wife. It wasn’t long after that when Weiner was caught sexting with a fifteen-year-old girl.

Abedin eventually filed for divorce in 2016 and later withdrew it from the court so the two could end their marriage privately. Her attorney, Charles Miller, released a statement that said, “In order to reduce any impact of these proceedings on their child, the parties have decided to reach a settlement swiftly and privately.” Weiner was sentenced to 21-months in prison for sending dick-pics to a minor but served just 15 of those months. He’s currently serving the rest of his sentence in a halfway house and is a registered sex offender.
Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver
When it was discovered that Arnold Schwarzenegger not only cheated on then-wife Maria Shriver but had a love child as well, the world was shocked. The movie star turned Governor destroyed his marriage by having an affair with the family’s maid which resulted in a child. By the time Shriver filed for divorce in 2011, Schwarzenegger’s love child was already a teenager. Reports have stated that Shriver was not only

The divorce has been ongoing since it was filed in 2011, and there’s no telling when the marriage will officially come to an end. While both parties have long since moved on, they seem to be dragging their feet when it comes to figuring out the details of their split. This could have to do with the fact that the couple didn’t have a prenup and $400 million in property has to be split between the two. Some think Schwarzenegger is putting off a divorce in hopes of the two reconciling, but that seems unlikely at this point.
John and Elizabeth Edwards

John Edwards was once a well-liked politician with his experience as a Senator leading to his 2008 presidential campaign. He was the favored candidate among Democrats until the news broke that he was having an affair. Not only was Edwards cheating on his then-wife Elizabeth with a woman he met on his campaign, but he did this while she was home dying of breast cancer. And it gets worse.

Edwards’ affair with documentary filmmaker Rielle Hunter began after she was hired to film him on the campaign trail. Their relationship lasted several years before the public found out and even resulted in a child in 2007. However, Edwards denied that the child was his even after admitting to the affair in 2008. It wasn’t until 2010 that he came clean and admitted paternity, encouraging Elizabeth to finally file for divorce. She ended up passing away soon after filing and Edwards continued to date Hunter until 2015.
Eliot and Silda Wall Spitzer

As attorney general and later as governor, it was learned that Eliot Spitzer spent over $80,000 on prostitutes. This was discovered after North Fork Bank reported suspicious transactions from his account to the Treasury Department’s Financial Crimes Enforcement Network, which is required by law in an effort to prevent certain terrorist acts such as money laundering. This triggered an investigation that outed Spitzer, leading to his resignation as New York State Governor in 2008. His then-wife Silda Wall Spitzer stuck by his side through this shenanigans, but her patience with his infidelities didn’t last long.
Spitzer didn’t learn his lesson after his career came crashing down, and was caught having an affair with the much younger former campaign spokeswoman, Lis Smith, in 2013. Silda filed for divorce soon after that, and Spitzer went public with his new relationship. After jumping through hoops to ensure her family that he’d given up prostitutes for good, Spitzer and Smith ended up splitting after just two years together. Apparently, they just got too busy to see each other and the split had nothing to do with Spitzer being a pig or the rapid decline in Smith’s political career. However, there are reports that claim Spitzer was being blackmailed by a hooker he had allegedly choked in the bedroom and Smith wanted nothing to do with it.
Kwame and Carlita Kilpatrick

Damaging rumors began to circulate just months after Kwame Kilpatrick was elected mayor of Detroit. There were accusations of strippers in the mayor’s mansion, wild parties, and irresponsible use of over-time by his team of bodyguards. Eventually, Kilpatrick was also accused of having an affair with his chief of staff, Christine Beatty who he also happened to grow up with. Deputy Police Chief Gary Brown started an investigation but was conveniently fired before any evidence was found. Brown sued, and it was during this trial that things got complicated for the mayor.

Both Kilpatrick and Beatty lied under oath stating they had nothing to do with Brown’s termination and denied their relationship. However, the 15,000 text messages that were dug up between the two would state otherwise. They were both found guilty of perjury, and Kilpatrick spent 4 months in prison while Beatty took a plea deal including 120 days in jail, payment of $100,000 in restitution, and 5 years of probation. Kilpatrick went back to prison in 2013 following a federal corruption trial where he was convicted of extortion, bribery,
