It was an unfortunate turn of events for one Montana officer. Mashable has uncovered the video of an officer’s reaction after shooting an unarmed man.
In April 2014, Billings Police Department Officer Grant Morrison is seen on dash cam, emotionally breaking down after the incident. This video was taken just moments after Morrison shot and killed Richard Ramirez. Morrison made a traffic stop on the vehicle in which Ramirez was a passenger. Morrison thought Ramirez was pulling out a gun. The victim was later found to be high on methamphetamine.
The video shows the sincerity of Officer Morrison. He is seen weeping and apologizing for the shooting.
“It’s the hardest decision I’ve ever had to make,” Morrison said during his testimony, according to the Billings Gazette. “I wish I didn’t have to make it. I wish I just knew he didn’t have a gun, but I couldn’t take the risk.”
The shooting was ruled a justifiable homicide on January 7.
