Matt Damon was a bit conflicted when he was asked to partake in the Ice Bucket Challenge by his friends Ben Affleck and Jimmy Kimmel. The actor wanted to participate and raise awareness for ALS but he didn’t feel great about wasting water.
Damon is the founder of Water.org, after all, and works tirelessly for the 800 million people around the world that don’t have access to clean water. So Matt Damon did the only logical thing he could think of: He did the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge with toilet water.
Damon said: “(The ice bucket challenge) posed kind of problem for me. Not only because there’s a drought here in California but because I co-founded Water.org. We envision the day when everybody has access to a clean drink of water. There are about 800 million people in the world who still don’t (have access to clean water). So dumping a clean bucket of water on my head seemed a little crazy.”
Damon still felt a little guilty for using clean toilet water because, as the actor says, the water in his toilet is cleaner than the drinking water in many parts of the country.
