Where do you turn when you have a bizarre relationship issue? Reddit, of course.
And when this guy needed help with his creepy relationship drama, as usual r/relationshipadvice was full of suggestions.
While his girlfriend was at a college lecture, user u/ellamk “accidentally” came across a mysterious cardboard box hidden on top of her wardrobe.
Inside he found a very strange assortment of items, all of which he used to own, from his toothbrush, to a half-used bar of soap, to a pair of his boxers.
And if that wasn’t weird enough, this was all mixed in with his hair, toenail clippings and a used condom. Ew.
In the post, the anonymous 21-year-old said: “We have been together for just over a year and we have never had any issues apart from minor arguments that were easily resolved. Up until recently I’ve never noticed anything strange about her behaviour.
“A few days ago she left her room at uni to go to a lecture in the morning and left me in there. Up until that day I had never looked through her things as I’ve never felt the need to.
“Boredom got the better of me and I wanted to see what she was storing. I found a box.
“When I opened it I found so many random things that I used to own. There were odd socks in there that she has taken. A toothbrush that I thought I had lost after our holiday. Bits of hair (presumably) from my comb. Toe nail clippings. Receipts that I assume she stole from my wallet.
“She even has things like empty wrappers of food that I know were mine. There was a piece of glass in there, but I don’t know where that is from. A USB phone charger. A half used bar of soap. Boxer shorts. Used gum. Used plasters from God knows when.”
Unsurprisingly, his main concern was the used condom, as he had no idea how she managed to keep it once the deed was done.
He continued: “I can’t remember what else because I just put it back and left. She doesn’t know I found it yet.
“I don’t want to confront her about it as she will know I was looking through her things. But then again, what else am I supposed to do? I love her so much but I am genuinely scared.”
People on the thread were quick to point out the similarities between the guy’s odd situation and the Netflix psychological thriller series You, in which stalker Joe Goldberg (Penn Badgley) keeps a disturbing box of his girlfriend Beck’s (Elizabeth Lail) things, such as her used tampons and teeth.
The consensus seemed to be that he should confront his scary sweetheart or dump her, but a few suggested that she might be a witch.
“Oh my God, witch. She’s a witch,” said one.
“This is the most likely explanation,” added another.
Whatever the outcome, that’ll teach him to rummage in his girlfriend’s stuff again without asking.
