Last.fm Shutting Down Streaming Service April 28

Last.fm

Last.fm announced Spotify integration towards the end of January, and today dealt a major blow with the shutdown of its radio streaming service on April 28.

The music discovery service took to its forum to announce the unfortunate news, but says users will be able to scrobble music if manufacturers continue to support the functionality.

“Hardware devices that currently scrobble, such as Sonos and Logitech Squeezebox, will continue to scrobble as long as the manufacturers support it. We continue to work on new ways to bring scrobbling to every corner of the music universe to make Last.fm your music home.”

The Scrobbler for iOS app will continue to work as well, Spotify integration will live on, and users can still listen to tracks from the Last.fm Player.

There’s no clear reason why its music streaming service is being shut down, aside from “we’ve chosen to focus on what we think Last.fm does best.”

However, increased competition in the space with the recent introduction of Beats Music could have been the culprit.

For Last.fm streaming music subscribers who purchased an annual subscription, you can go here to request a refund.
