Lee Wachtsetter has made a home out of an interesting location. The 86-year-old woman has made the decision to live on the Crystal Serenity, a luxury cruiseship. Known by ship crew and cruise guests as ‘Mama Lee’, the spunk senior citizen sold her Florida home and moved into the cruiseship in 2008. USA Today says she chose this certain ship because of it’s dance program. Lee loves to dance and hits the dance floor every night after dinner.
“For the past 15 years, dancing has become a great part of my life. When I cannot dance, I will probably stop cruising,” Lee explains.
The lady does know how to shake her groove thing. She shared a video of her dancing in the cruiseship’s Christmas dance show.
Lee is no stranger to cruises. She has been on 283 since 1962. The globetrotter has been to more than a 100 countries. So many, that she rarely gets off the ship when it docks anymore.
“My husband and I loved to cruise. Before he died in 1997, he told me not to stop cruising and so I didn’t,” Lee says.
Lee’s unique lifestyle costs her about $164,000 year. This amount includes a single-occupancy seventh deck stateroom, all her meals, and nightly ballroom dancing. She also participates in the ship’s free entertainment throughout the day.
“The crewmembers bend over backwards to keep me happy. Some are almost like family now. If they don’t have what I want, they get it. even if they have to buy it off the ship or make it to my specific needs.”
Lee says the only downfall of her life is not getting to see her children and grandchildren very often. She skypes and emails them everyday and visits anytime the ship docks in Florida.
