King Overtakes Zynga To Become Facebook’s Top Game Provider

King.com has become the number one social gaming provider on Facebook, overtaking reigning champion Zynga. According to independent analytics firm AppData, King.com managed to rack up three games in Facebook’s top 10 for January 2013.

Taking the top spot is Candy Crush Saga, a Bejeweled-style game with multi-player support. The No. 1 game launched in April 2012 and followed up with a mobile version in November 2012. Candy Crush Saga has racked up more than 9.7 million daily players, far ahead of Zynga’s top game FarmVille which now averages 8.8 million.

Candy Crush Saga is now played more than 55 million times per day across Android and iOS devices. The game is cross device compatible which means users can play on their Google Android device for a while then sit down at their computer and play on the Facebook portal at a later time. Cross device compatibility also extends to in-app purchases.

King.com has taken a successful approach to game development, launching games with limited levels and gameplay and then turning them into a “Saga” if they are successful, at which time the games earn more levels and options before moving to Facebook.

By taking a step-by-step approach to development King.com is able to ensure that only its most popular and successful games launch for Facebook users and eventually for mobile devices.

Also currently in the Facebook top 10 are Bubble Witch Saga and Pet Rescue Saga.
