KFC Pays Couple $11,000 For Naming Their Daughter After the Colonel

We know college is expensive, but these parents are willing to go further than most to ensure their child receives a top-notch education .

KFC has awarded $11,000 to a couple who named their newborn daughter after Colonel Sanders, with the sum going straight into the child’s college fund.

Announcing baby Harland Rose’s win on Twitter, the Colonel (well, someone in the guise of the Colonel, the real one died in 1980) said: “I’m as pleased as pumpkin punch to announce the winner of our Baby Harland Naming Contest and the Harland who will be ushering in an all-new generation of Harlands, little Harland Rose.”

However, the parents have decided to nickname the girl – who weighed 8lbs 1 oz at birth – Harley.

The fast food outlet intially began the campaign to revive the unpopular name, with Harland currently sitting at 5,477th on the list of newborn baby names.

The company stipulated that the first child to be born on 9th September (the Colonel’s birthday) whose parents named them Harland would receive the lump sum. The decision to giveaway $11,000 was in honor of the 11 herbs and spices used to flavor KFC’s world famous chicken.
