Rumor has it that actor Kevin Spacey isn’t interested in the Netflix original House of Cards beyond two seasons because, as insiders tell it, “he wants to be in movies.” The speech above, delivered at the James MacTaggart Memorial Lecture at the Edinburgh Television Festival, seems to suggest that that’s a bunch of bullsh**.
If anything, the 54-year-old Oscar double-fister has nothing but praise for the streaming-all-at-once model, and seems as committed an apologist as any.
Not too long ago, Steven Spielberg and George Lucas predicted the end of bloated-budget Hollywood productions, and opined that V.O.D. was the wave of the future. Is it possible that television will undergo a similar revolution, and that Netflix’s original programming is leading the charge?
Its biggest star seems to think so.
