Brace yourselves, Marvel fans, it’s official: Jennifer Lawrence will be bowing out of the X-Men movie franchise after the release of “X-Men: Apocalypse“, the newest addition to the reboot, gracing cinemas this coming 27th of May, 2016. Will this leave a lot of us feeling bluer than blue? You betcha.
JLaw revealed this bit of news quiet briefly on the red carpet of the premier of her latest movie, “Serena“: “It is my last one [run with ‘X-Men‘], actually”, she says. she doesn’t particularly elaborate further or spill a few more details, but we’re cool with that.
The reason for the goodbye? It’s really more about the plot than any particular quibble behind the camera: JLaw was signed up to play a younger version of Rebecca Romjin-Stamos’ Mystique in the most recent X-Men prequels. (Remember? That’s right.) With the time-altering effects in play in X-Men: Days of Future Past, a new era for mutants is about to begin, while the team lead by James McAvoy’s Xavier, Michael Fassbender’s Magneto, Nicolas Hoult’s Beast, and (natch) JLaw’s Mystique is about to call curtains.
Is there even just a tiny smidgen of hope for a “Mystique” spinoff? Nope, sorry, not happening.
But look up, geeksters: besides catching her for the last time in solid blue this May, she’s still set to grace three more movies, one of which is the culmination of a long-awaited sci-fi two-parter.
Besides “X-Men: Apocalypse”, JLaw will play Katniss Everdeen in the final installment of “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay (Part 2)“. she will also be starring in two other dramatic movies: “Joy” comes out this year, with JLaw playing a single mom who struggles and succeeds as one of the country’s top entrepreneurs. 2017 will see her as Lynsey Addario, a wartime photographer who was captured by the Libyan Army in 2011 in the bio movie “It’s What I Do: A Photographer’s Life of Love and War“.
