Instagram users were sharing away this Thanksgiving and helped contribute to the site’s biggest day ever. With over 100 million registered users, many took to sharing pictures of food, family, football, and more.
Over 10 million Thanksgiving photos were shared either using a hashtag or Thanksgiving themed words. The hashtag #turkey was one of the most popular. With a peak of 226 images uploaded per second at 12:40 PM PST, this helped Instagram break another record. On an average day, 26 photos are uploaded each second.
The most photographed event prior to Thanksgiving, Hurricane Sandy, had over 800,000 photos uploaded to Instagram with around 10 Sandy-related photos uploaded every second.
