Instagram Now Has More Than 5 Million Users, Promises “Very Cool Stuff” For The Future

Instagram Photo Sharing and Editing Service

Photo sharing and editing service Instagram on Tuesday announced that they have surpassed the 5 million users mark, just 8 months after launching out of beta testing.

As they pointed out with only 4 workers Instagram is currently averaging 1.25 million users per every one employee at the company, while adding up to 100,000 new users per weekend.

Despite their small staff size, company co-founder Kevin Systrom is promising:

“Lots of very cool new stuff coming soon”

The company also announced another big milestone with 100 million uploaded photos since the system launched and 95 million images currently being hosted on their service. Based on those site numbers users are averaging 1 million uploads per day.

Putting that number into comparison, Flickr took 2 years to reach the 100 million mark and now hosts more than 5 billion images.

The company is expected to offer photos from more than 10 million users by the end of 2011.
