Instagram Debuts Profile Feed For Desktop Web

Instagram has finally caught up with social media circa 2007. In all seriousness, today they announced that their full image feed has found its way to the web, meaning that you don’t have to access the network through mobile apps to peruse, comment, and like user photos.

Instagram has been mobile-exclusive since October 2010, and has finally debuted on desktop web as of today. You can change the look of the desktop feed to look like the mobile app if that’s what you’re used to, but there’s also a desktop look a la Twitter or Facebook.

According to the official blog announcement, Instagram’s desktop web feed functions the same way as the mobile app.

You can:

  • Browse your friends’ latest photos.
  • “Like” photos by double-clicking them or pressing the “like” button.
  • Use inline commenting to engage in conversation around a photo.

“We believe that you should be able to access Instagram on a variety of different devices, any of which may be convenient to you at a given moment – including your desktop computer or tablet,” writes Instagram co-founder Kevin Systrom. “We do not offer the ability to upload from the web as Instagram is about producing photos on the go, in the real world, in realtime. On the other hand, Instagram for the web is focused on making the browsing experience a fast, simple and enjoyable one.”
