‘I Dream Of Jeannie’ Costume Donned By Barbara Eden At 78 [Twitter Reacts]

i dream of jeannie

Actress Barbara Eden donned her iconic I Dream of Jeannie costume at Saturday’s Life Ball 2013 in Vienna, and got all of Twitter buzzing about nostalgia, age and beauty, and Bill Clinton (for good measure).

The I Dream of Jeannie costume was worn by Eden for the television show of the same name which ran on NBC between 1965 and 1970. The show, co-starring Larry Hagman, revolved around Eden’s “Jeannie,” a 2,000-year-old genie who becomes the servant of Hagman’s astronaut character, “Tony Nelson.”

Her costume is so iconic that you really don’t need to have seen the TV series to recognize it. It’s like Princess Leia’s gold bikini.

Anyway, at the Life Ball, Eden donned the I Dream of Jeannie costume once again, taking the stage with Bill Clinton and Fergie. She addressed the crowd and even performed one of her classic Jeannie moves – folding her arms and blinking dramatically.

Most surprising about Eden’s appearance is the fact that she is 78-years-old. Wearing her old costume, belly shirt and all, after all these years might sound like a risky move for a woman her age, but the crowd embraced her.

So did Twitter:

Indeed, Barbara Eden’s popularity on Twitter extends beyond her Life Ball appearance. She’s not quite to George Takei levels of social popularity, but she’s up there and very active in her own right:
