This isn’t the first time Jackman has been treated for skin cancer. The Wolverine actor gets regular check-ups for the recurring problem.
According to People:
“The actor was first treated for basal-cell carinoma in November 2013. He posted a photo online, saying his wife, Deborra-Lee Furness, had encouraged him to get the “mark” checked. He posted a second photo in May 2014.”
“It’s always a bit of a shock just hearing the word ‘cancer,’ ” Jackman told People Magazine. “Being an Australian it’s a very common thing. I never wore sunscreen growing up so I was a prime candidate for it.”
He continued:
“I go every three months for check-ups. It’s the new normal for me. My doctor says I’ll likely have more, and if that’s your cross to bear in life, you should be so lucky.”
According to SkinCancer.org:
“Anyone over the age of six months should use a sunscreen daily. Even those who work inside are exposed to ultraviolet radiation for brief periods throughout the day, especially if they work near windows, which generally filter out UVB but not UVA rays. Children under the age of six months should not be exposed to the sun, since their skin is highly sensitive to the chemical ingredients in sunscreen as well as to the sun’s rays. Shade and protective clothing are the best ways to protect infants from the sun.”
