Instant messaging has been around forever, leaving one to wonder if anything new and fun can be do with the medium. Startup hoozin does just that, and offers a unique twist on mobile group instant messaging unlike anything we’ve ever seen.
Last week, hoozin debuted a unique group messaging app that lets you “hangout” with friends on your mobile device. Nothing new so far, but innovation comes with the visual format. The app (for iOS and Android) shows users as though they were sitting around a table, and their messages pile up like cards.
Instead of a dull list of messages, hoozin helps users feel like they’re actually sitting in the same room with friends. You can constantly see who’s online and who’s typing.
Some features include:
- Whisper a secret to one (or more) of the group members so your messages won’t always need to be sent to the entire group.
- Fun animations – you can actually throw a tomato or give a kiss to someone from your group.
- Roulette – Can’t decide who’s bringing a car? Spin the roulette and let it decide for you.
Udi Zohar, co-founder of hoozin says that the purpose of the app (and the company) is “making people feel closer to one another,” which is why the startup has such a focus on design. “Hoozin is all about the people, it is designed (at
it’s core) for a joint experience that feels as natural as real life.” Zohar says.
Hoozin’s design and user experience definitely sets it apart from other messaging apps. Zohar told me that while something like “throwing tomatoes” at friends in group chat may sound funny, hoozin is “is the first one [messaging app] that enables users to directly engage individuals within the group.”
You can check out hoozin on Facebook, or download it at the app store (Google Play link here). Below are some screenshots of the app. Let us know what you think!
