HootSuite Takes A Play From Tech Giants, Creates Internal Lab

HootSuite

HootSuite recently launched new managed security and compliance services, and according to VentureBeat, has created its own internal lab.

Appropriately named “HootSuite Labs,” the goal is to stay ahead of the curve by having a team focused solely on product development.

The team currently consists of ten to 15 people, says VentureBeat, and the social media management service is still hiring for a few outside positions.

From VP of Corporate Development Matt Switzer:

“We are looking to cement a hacker culture at HootSuite, [and] we’re looking for people who can ship code fast and dream up new products.”

HootSuite Labs will function very similar to say a Google X, meaning an internal yet separate group from the rest of the company.

The Hootlet Chrome extension was the first project out of the lab, and with HootSuite closing a $165 million round of funding in August 2013, it’s got the money to invest in R&D.
