“[We are] sad to announce the death of a Chinese tourist who was attacked by a #hippo while taking pictures on the shores of Lake Naivasha yesterday evening,” the Kenya Wildlife Service tweeted following the tragic occurrence.
“His colleague survived with minor bruises and was treated at #Naivasha District Hospital. We are tracking the hippo.”
They noted that the two were tracking the hippo.
The Star, a Kenyan newspaper, reported that the man was with buddies taking pics near a hotel when the hippo attacked.
Witness James Omollo explained the man got too close to the hippo which turned against him, biting him on the chest. He added the victim was “bleeding profusely”.
The attacks brought to 5 the number of persons who have been attacked and killed by hippos in Naivasha since the year commenced, according to the newspaper.

The hippopotamus is among the most lethal animals in the world as it is exceedingly aggressive and unpredictable.
Hippos can run an astonishing 14 miles per hour for short distances, thereby, it isn’t simple to outrun one on land.
Hence, hippos are responsible for killing nearly 3,000 people every year.
A hippopotamus can open its mouth at a 180 degree angle, however it can bite an unsuspecting tourist completely in half with a furious force of 2,000 pounds per square inch.
