Heisman Trophy Winner Johnny Manziel Quits Twitter

Johnny Manziel Quits Twitter

Heisman Trophy winner Johnny Manziel has broken up … with Twitter. Just months after Manziel became the first college freshmen to win the Heisman he has decided to quit the micro-blogging service after several public Twitter fights with internet trolls.

Speaking to ESPN.com on Tuesday Manziel said “I’ve kind of just shut if all off. With how the media has been with me for a while, I just shut everything off. As of [Monday], I said I was done with [Twitter] for however long. It’s fun to have, but it can get to be distracting at points.”

Manziel was coming off an amazing season in which he led Texas A&M to an 11-2 record with 26 touchdowns. Eventually the star quarterback was given the name “Johnny Football.”

Following the end of his season Manziel was spotted partying with various celebrities. It was also discovered that Manziel had enrolled in online-only classes at Texas A&M. In a very public moment Manziel lashed out against a group of internet trollers, a move that put him in how water.

Here is a sample of the Tweets Manziel was sending to his Twitter haters:

Johnny Manziel is leaving behind 330,000 Twitter followers for an indefinite amount of time.

Continuing his talk with ESPN Manziel reveals, “I’m surprised to [see] how the attention has continued through the off-season. guess I thought it would die off and slow down a little bit, but it really hasn’t.”

On Wednesday Manziel’s Twitter page was still online but had not been updated since Monday.

Johnny Manziel may have quit Twitter but based on his decision to hold onto 330,000 followers we have a feeling he’ll be tweeting sooner rather than later. If nothing else he has a nice group of followers when he heads to the NFL in three more years.
