Those two are at it again, doing stupid shit to get your attention. No, we’re not talking about your children. We’re talking about Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt, who have once again managed to uncomfortably wedge themselves back into popular culture just as we were finally beginning to forget their names.
I guess the infamous couple launched a new reality TV show some time ago. It’s called “SpeidiShow,” and features the couple living out a different reality show format each week, or something.

Anyway, the show isn’t real. It’s actually just a staged viral hoax put on by Montag, Asshat, and writers Mark C. Marino and Rob Wittig. They wanted to basically troll the Internet and see how much buzz for a fake show they could drum up on social media, particularly Twitter.
The Result? Not Much
Searching the hashtag #speidishow on Twitter doesn’t yield encouraging results. A few retweets, favorites and links, but most of the tweets are from Montag and Asshat. They did manage to get some attention from their fans, and MTV even wrote a half-hearted preview/review of an episode.
Still, I’m reluctant to give Speidi the credit that The Huffington Post gave them (they called the duo’s hoax “clever” and “brilliant”). The show’s greatest achievement on the Internet, by our measure, seems to be a feature piece on BuzzFeed, but even that was the expose pegging the show as the hoax that it is.
So we call bullshit.
Though we are a humble publication and nowhere near the power and infrastructure of HuffPo, we watch trends and aggregate stories from all over the web and social media constantly. Since Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt are regrettably newsworthy, this would have crossed our desks before now if it was an actual thing.
Even you, HuffPo, didn’t seem to know about this until it was debunked.
In summation:
- Headline: “Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt successfully troll the Internet!”
- Internet’s response: “Never heard of them.”
- We really hope MTV hasn’t heard about this yet. There have been worse shows.
- Please exit pop culture gracefully, Speidi. This is your last chance.
