Hatsune Miku Makes ‘Late Show’ History [Video]

David Letterman had a pretty unique guest on his show last night. Hatsune Miku, a CGI anime character, stopped by the Late Show last night for a record breaking appearance.

If you aren’t familiar with Hatsune Miku, she (it?) was created by the Japanese media company Crypton Future Media. Mashable reports that the company created Miku to promote its vocal synthesize software. Now, fans can create music and have Miku sing it for them.

One of her most popular songs, “World Is Mine,” has been viewed more than 13 million times on YouTube.

Here’s a look at her appearance on Letterman last night.

Having Hatsune Miku appear on Letterman was an interesting choice. The late night talk show isn’t really known for cutting edge technology and we doubt that Letterman’s audience has ever heard of her. But maybe that was point. Maybe Letterman is trying to bring in some new viewers.

Still, Letterman looked pretty awkward standing next to the hologram.

This isn’t the first time that Hatsune Miku has appeared beside an American celebrity. Last summer the hologram opened up for Lady Gaga on the ARTPOP tour.
