Google+ Hits 300 Million Active Users In The Stream, Adds 18 New Features

Google+

Google+ is far beyond the days of a so-called ghost town, and today announced 300 million active users in the stream.

Hosted by SVP of Engineering Vic Gundotra, the social network held an event this morning in San Francisco.

Hangouts, which replaced Google Talk, will be receiving location sharing, animated gif support, and the Android app now includes SMS capabilities.

Full screen video calls are now supported across all devices, and Google+ has integrated its auto enhance features into video chats. For example, users can enable “Spotlight” to have their webcam focus on them, and slightly blur out the background.

1.5 billion photos are uploaded to Google+ each week, and over 1,000 new words have been added to image search. Whether you search for anything from “beach” to “hedgehog,” the updated image search will deliver accurate results.

Coming soon to the iOS app, users will finally be able to upload full size photos, and automatically sync photos and videos.

Auto Awesome helps to automatically enhance your photos, and it received two new features today.

Auto Awesome Action is able to blend together multiple shots, creating an image like this:

Auto Awesome Eraser enables you to easily remove people from your photos with just a few clicks.

There’s been a 20x increase in video uploads, and to help users create even better videos, you can now combine multiple clips.

Once you have selected multiple videos, Google+ automatically combines them into one. You can add a new title, and when you swipe over top, can choose from settings like “Showtime” or “Punk” which adds different filters.

Features also include trimming, the ability to set a specific video duration, and you can choose from “dozens and dozens” of licensed tracks.

You can watch the video of today’s Google+ event below which starts around the 12:30 mark.
