Giant Inflatable Minion Gets Loose and Wreaks Havoc in Dublin

A giant inflatable version of the little yellow sidekicks from “Despicable Me” and “Minions” created a traffic nightmare for some Dubliners.

u18851916ast week, we told you all about how oversaturated the Minion phenomenon has become. This week, it seems drivers in Dublin, Ireland have a whole new reason to hate the little yellow cornpops. That’s because a giant inflatable Minion came loose from its restraints and tumbled onto the Old Swords Road in northern Dublin.

Local police had to be called to come out and deflate the massive promotional balloon. Here’s how it looked the day before, as it was being inflated:

“Hell really is a place on Earth,” opines Rachel, who uploaded the photo to Twitter.

According to witnesses, one driver had the mirror knocked off of his car when the balloon came tumbling into the street. Other than that, there wasn’t any major damage or serious injuries.

Here are some photos taken at the scene of the incident:

“I’m not sure how it got loose but I just saw it coming loose and flying across the road as we were driving,” said Erin Van Londen, one of the drivers nearby when the incident occured.

She adds: “It’s been very windy in the area.”

Aside from the aforementioned damage caused to one driver’s mirror, the unusual incident also caused a traffic jam for some time before it was finally deflated and taken out of the road.

“I actually rang the gardaí [Irish police]. It was quite an odd thing to have to report,” Van Londen said.

Here are some pictures of police euthanizing the runaway Minion:

Fully inflated, the Minion was between “30 and 40 feet” high, Van London says.

“We got quite a shock. Luckily it didn’t seem to cause much damage.”
