Star Wars fans have a love / hate relationship with George Lucas. On one hand, he created iconic characters like Han Solo, Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader. On the other hand, he continues to alter the movies his fans love so much with re-releases and special editions. Also, Jar Jar Binks.
Now that J.J. Abrams has released the first look at Star Wars: The Force Awakens, YouTube user TimTimFed couldn’t help but wonder what would happen if George Lucas got his hands on it.
The answer is more stuff. More TIE Fighters. More characters. More stuff in every scene.
The YouTube description simply reads: “It’s so dense.”
George Lucas is well aware that some Star Wars fans are very critical of these re-releases, but he doesn’t regret any of the changes that he’s made. Lucas believes that all of the anger just shows how much people really love his movies.
Lucas said: “Changes are not unusual — I mean, most movies when they release them they make changes. But somehow, when I make the slightest change, everybody thinks it’s the end of the world. That whole issue between filmmakers and the studios with the studios being able to change things without even letting the director of the movie know… I’m very much involved in that [so that’s not happening here]… My job is to try to make the best possible movie it can be.”
