Things just keep getting worse for poor Sean Hannity. This consummate journalist and ruthless truth-seeker, a man who has never pushed a partisan idea or told a half-truth to millions of gullible viewers in his life, is under fire for some supposedly shady legal dealings. I mean, are you telling me that, in America, you’re not allowed to consort with lawyers to conduct illegal activities? Then what the hell are lawyers supposed to be for?
See, as a journalist, you’re supposed to disclose to your editors if you have a personal interest in the story you’re reporting on. For example, if you happen to be a client of the lawyer that’s getting charged and searched, and you’re on air every night railing about how unfair and un-American it is, your bosses should know. This prevents obvious conflict of interest problems, like your using an enormous bully pulpit to convince people that yet-undiscovered crimes are illegitimate before they’re revealed to the public. But if you keep that to yourself, your employer will keep their most popular personality on air, saying basically whatever he wants about his personal favorite topics.
So it seems that Fox News has made a quiet pact. They are already a force for evil in the world, so it really isn’t that much worse to also compromise their vanishingly thin veil of “journalistic ethics.” We promise we won’t kick you out, provided you don’t make a big damn deal out of it, SEAN. Of course, Sean Hannity has never been one for keeping things quiet, so we will see how it goes.
