Forget Coffee, Silicon Valley’s Young Professionals Turn to LSD

It’s no secret that lysergic acid diethylamide, also known as LSD, has had a profound impact on the professionals of Silicon Valley. Steve Jobs famously stated that he wouldn’t have been as successful without use of the drug. But while tripping is great for creativity and outside-the-box thinking, popping a tab before your work day is just a tad too intense of an experience.

Until now, that is. In their quest for productivity, some Silicon Valley professionals are abandoning coffee and Adderall and opting for micro-doses of LSD. Now, LSD is already a drug active at incredibly low doses. That’s why you can take a tab the size of a fingernail and visit outer space for 8 to 12 hours. A “micro-dose” of the drug would be very small indeed. But it works, apparently. Just ask psychologist and writer James Fadiman, who popularized the concept while speaking at a 2011 conference.

According to Rolling Stone:

For best results, Fadiman recommends microdosing every fourth day, taking the drug in the morning and then sticking to your usual daily routine. His correspondents have told him regular microdosing has alleviated a bevy of disorders, including depression, migraines and chronic-fatigue syndrome, while increasing outside-the-box thinking. “Microdosing has helped me come up with some new designs to explore and new ways of thinking,” Ken says. “You would be surprised at how many people are actually doing it. It’s crazy awesome.”

Now, before you decide to ditch the coffee yourself, it’s worth noting that LSD is still a very powerful drug that affects all people differently. It’s also majorly illegal in the United States, which presents its own problems. But hey—the times are changing. Maybe micro-dosing will catch on with everybody in the future.
