Florida Man Dons Spiderman Costume, Robs Store, Steals Liquor And Cigarettes

Here we go again, another Florida man in his usual habitat which means another weird crime. However, this time around, the said crime was perpetrated not by a man, but by Spiderman… or at least someone dressed like him. What crime, you ask? He robbed a store, stealing liquor and cigarettes, while wearing a Spiderman costume.

While that sounds like something a real-life teenage Peter Parker would do, don’t get your hopes up. This one’s just a regular Florida man who donned a Spiderman costume, sadly. The man actually showed up to Winn-Dixie Wine and Spirits Store in Casselberry, Florida initially without a mask. He was even caught on the store’s CCTV:

“To me, it was just a matter of absolute surprise that he would walk up to the door first, try to break in and then it starts clicking in his head that I might get caught if I don’t put a mask on,” expressed Bruce Milne, the police officer who reviewed the footage.

Then his Spidey sense tingled and he proceeds to leave the store but only to return wearing a Spiderman costume– a cheap one at that, as it only consisted of the mask. He can even be seen having quite a hard time opening the door before stealing around $150 in liquor and $420 in Newport cigarettes and then making the run for it like a spider can.

But can he swing from a web? No, he can’t and this cost him his getaway. Hence, the Florida man in the Spiderman costume was caught by the police and is now behind bars. Turns out, his name was Edward Wilburn and he was actually a repeat offender.

“There’s a line in the Spider-Man theme song, he ‘catches thieves, just like flies.’ In this commercial burglary video, you’ll see Spider-Man himself is the thief, who managed to get himself caught, by appearing on surveillance video UNMASKED,” states the sheriff’s office.
