Are those boobs?
In case you missed it, the above image was posted to Facebook yesterday by Theories of the Deep Understanding of Things, an audio-visual web magazine (cadre of seriously artsy pranksters is probably a more accurate description). If you didn’t fall for it you’re in the minority, because you’re supposed to see a giant boob, areola and all, instead of an elbow because your brain will go for boob before it asks itself “why does this woman have no arms?”
In any case, within 24 hours, Facebook removed the image with the modesty blanket called the Statement of Rights and Responsibilities.
“FB moderators can’t tell an elbow from a dangerous, filthy, uncanny and violent female breast,” the posters wrote in a follow-up. “No questions were asked and the post is down. Imagine our surprise.”
The only real problem here (and the original posters know this) is that once you see that woman’s elbow as a boob, you can’t un-see a boob.
According to Gawker, Facebook apparently realized the error and issued an apology. “Just wanted to reach out and let you know that we have restored the photo. We made a mistake and sent an apology to the original poster.”
To be a fly on the wall for that Facebook board meeting …
