Facebook Messenger got a major upgrade today with the ability to send and receive videos. Rolling out now on iOS, it’s expected to hit Android later this week.
While you can send and watch videos within the messaging window, you can’t record videos directly from the app.
You’ll still need to fire up your go-to camera app, and unlike Vine or Instagram, there is no restrictive time limit.
Here’s what else is new in Messenger:
- More ways to message: Everything’s front and center, so it’s easier to send photos, voice messages and more.
- Instant photo sharing: Take a photo and send it in just one tap, without leaving the conversation.
- Shortcuts to stickers: When someone sends you a sticker, press and hold down on it to get the pack.
- Improved search: Enter the names of people and groups to find them quickly.
- Other fixes, including to stickers and groups.
Now when in a chat window, directly below the text area are all the icons (pictured above) to snap a selfie, add a video, share a sticker or record a voice message.
Facebook Messenger received free voice calling over Wi-Fi at the beginning of April, and recently a spokesperson confirmed that Messenger will soon be required in order to chat on mobile.
