Facebook, It’s Like A Chair [Video]

How would you describe Facebook? The social network recently compared itself to chairs, doorbells, planes, and bridges in its first ad to celebrate its one billionth user.

So how is Facebook like a chair?

The ad, which was created by American agency Wieden + Kennedy, says that Facebook is like a chair because anyone can sit on a chair to talk to their friends.

The ad says:

“Anyone can sit on a chair, and if the chair’s large enough they can sit down together and tell jokes and make up stories or just listen … Chairs are for people, and that is why chairs are like Facebook.”

The ad goes on to compare itself to various things like doorbells, bridges, and planes.

Here’s the new Facebook ad.

What do you think?

The ad is already getting mocked by blogs, Twitter, and Facebook users. A parody account created on Twitter (@FacebooksChair) has been struggling with an identity crisis since the video went live.

Facebook’ s Chair writes: Apparently I’m a social network. Or I’m made so people can sit down and tell jokes. Or I’m Facebook. Or something. Maybe I’m a doorbell.

But Mark Zuckerberg seems to be quite proud of the company’s new ad.

Zuckerberg said:

“For the first time in our history, we’ve made a brand video to express what our place is on this earth. We believe that the need to open up and connect is what makes us human. It’s what brings us together. It’s what brings meaning to our lives.”

What do you think? Is Facebook like a chair?
