Facebook Gifts Event Rescheduled In New York City

Facebook Gifts Event Rescheduled

The Facebook Gifts event has officially been rescheduled for November 15 in New York City after it ran into problems with Hurricane Sandy.

The event was initially scheduled for November 1, but it was cancelled in light of Hurricane Sandy, which swept through the East Coast and left at least 8.5 million homes without power.

The Facebook Gifts event will now take place next week at the FAO Schwartz building on Fifth Avenue in Manhattan.

Sandy swept through the area on Monday and Tuesday, causing mass transportation issues as subways flooded and thousands of flights were cancelled. The problems caused several companies to cancel or postpone their events in the area.

These include a few events Facebook had schedule, as well as a device launch by Google. Like its first invitation, the second invite from Facebook gave few details about the actual event, though it is expected that the company will reveal information about retail partnerships for its Gifts service.

The offering went live in September and allows Facebook users to give each other actual gifts by sending them through the social network.

The company added last week that users can donate to charity using the Facebook Gifts app. Users are able to either choose one of the 11 nonprofits partnering with Facebook, or they can allow their friends to choose a charity for the donation.

Facebook has added the Gifts app to iOS through an app update, which lets iPhone and iPad users send real-world gifts from their mobile devices.

The original event was rumored to include information about the iOS Facebook Gifts app update, but Facebook states instead that it will announce new Gifts partners instead.
