Facebook Gift Cards are now available for purchase and use at multiple stores at one time. The new physical cards are a tangible, reusable gift that is capable of holding multiple store gift cards at one time. For example, a buyer can purchase a gift card to Olive Gardne and then buy a second Facebook Gift Card from Target. The person receiving the multiple cards simply presents the card at Olive Garden and Target to take advantage of their newly received gifts.
In an official company blog post Facebook reveals:
“After you’ve received a card, the next time you get a Facebook Card gift, it will instantly be added to your existing card. Your card can hold multiple gift balances, and each balance is dedicated to the retailer associated with the gift.”
Users simply check their balances online or via their smartphone. The application shows exactly which gift cards the user has at their disposal and the balance totals for each gift card. Here is a quick look at the Facebook Gift Card mobile app:
According to Facebook:
“Your friend will be notified instantly about your gift, and will receive a Facebook Card in the mail a few days later. As soon as it arrives, your friend can use the card at the retailer you’ve chosen for the amount you’ve gifted.”
When your card is used Facebook also send real-time notifications to your account and phone so you know how much you have left on each card and what purchases were made.
Retailers are already jumping on the chase to use the new Facebook Gift Card program. Here is a shot of a Target retail page that shows the option to buy Target Gift Cards or Facebook Gift Cards featuring Target money:
