Vimeo has debuted a video ratings system that tells views if videos are safe for certain audiences.
The new rating system features three labels: All Audiences, Mature, and Not Yet Rated.
Vimeo’s creators says the new video rating system is meant to categorize all “boobs, blood, and curse words.”
The social video sharing website says it also plans to create filters that will allow users to block any unwanted content based on those ratings.
In a company blog post Vimeo’s Paul Simoneschi writes:
“Though often essential to artistic expression, so-called ‘mature content’ can be decidedly less essential for certain audiences, such as children, office workers with their computer speakers turned up too loud, and people who’d rather not encounter particular things.”
The Vimeo rating system is based on video creator participation. As videos are uploaded the publisher is asked to rate their videos. Vimeo is also asking that creators update their already existing videos.
According to Simoneschi:
“Vimeo will always be the place to find an audience for your original creative work, but sometimes it means giving people a heads up if a face is going to explode or if someone is going to take their jean shorts off.”
