Facebook Acquires Top Designers From Buyout Of Mac Development House “Sofa”

Dutch based Mac development house Sofa announced on Friday that they have been acquired by Facebook. Sofa is best known for their Mac apps: Kaleidoscope, Versions, Checkout and Enstore.

Announced on the Sofa company blog, the acquisition isn’t about Mac apps, but rather about acquiring the company’s design talent.

According to TechCrunch:

“Terms of the deal are not being disclosed. But again, this is a pure talent acquisition for Facebook. And we’ve heard the main emphasis behind it is to continue to boost their [Facebook’s] product design talent.”

For fans of the company’s apps they have promised to find new homes for them at other development firms which means the programs will continue to be support, in fact two of those programs Checkout and Enstore were created through joint partnerships and already have homes for the future.

We have no idea how Facebook will utilize the company’s design team at this time.
