Facebook developers have coded a new set of variable that remove naughty and illegal searches from its Graph Search feature.
The new algorithm blocks perverts from hunting down kids under the age of 18. The Graph Search algorithm also blocks people by age.
Facebook had already put some precautions in place before Graph Search launched but this week took the filtering of Graph Search one step further.
Facebook already bans public posts by minors and monitors Facebook chat for inappropriate contact based on thousands of variables meant to hunt down predators and report them to law enforcement agencies.
According to the search giant:
“On Facebook, many things teens are likely to do – such as adding information to their timelines or sharing status updates – can only be shared with a maximum of Friends of Friends. In addition, for certain searches that could help to identify a young person by age or by their location, results will only show to that person’s Friends, or Friends of Friends who are also between the age of 13-17.”
Facebook Open Graph Search is only available for early access which explains why greater public outcry over predatory practices was not observed.
Social Graph Search has many practical applications for personal and business use and as Facebook continues to improve its algorithms the search will likely improve further.
