Facebook has been a strong advocate of raising awareness for public safety issues, and has announced two new suicide prevention initiatives.
Partnering with the JED Foundation and Clinton Foundation, Facebook will help teach health professionals and college staff on effective tools for understanding suicide risk factors, including hosting a special summit.
Part of a much larger campaign, the social network has also put its support behind Prevent the Attempt which helps companies learn how to effectively address users who may be suicidal.
Here are all the companies currently involved:
- Google/YouTube
- Microsoft
- National Suicide Prevention Lifeline
- Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration
- Suicide Awareness Voices of Education
- Tumblr
- WordPress
- Yahoo
Back in December 2011, Facebook added the ability to report content for suicidal activity, and to learn more about how to help your friends or family members, you can visit Facebook’s Help Center.
