Facebook has acquired GazeHawk, a startup that specialized in eye tracking technology
It’s believed that the purchase was a talent buy that will allow Facebook to integrate the company’s staff into new projects at the worlds largest social network.
According to rumors Facebook will leave the startups technology and patents as a separate entity.
The technology was originally developed for website optimization and allowed publishers and advertisers to analyze where users eyes move around a website. The technology worked by using standard webcams.
In a blog post the startup wrote:
“We’ll be working on projects unrelated to GazeHawk, most likely on product and backend engineering. GazeHawk’s product and technology are not part of the acquisition and will remain completely independent of Facebook.”
The GazeHawk staff begins work at Facebook next week.
