Evernote Improves Business Card Scanning With LinkedIn Integration

Evernote, the popular note-taking app with over 75 million users, today announced a new partnership with LinkedIn to enhance its business card scanning.

Back in December, the app introduced business card scanning as part of its Premium plan, and users simply take a photo of a business card within the app.

Automatically and in seconds, Evernote is capable of detecting text, and separates it into information such as name, company, phone number and more.

With the LinkedIn partnership, now when a business card is scanned, that information is also ran through the social network to pull up the person’s profile.

If they have an account, it will automatically be linked to their information and photo of their business card.

In order to take advantage of the new integration, you’ll have to connect your LinkedIn account, but Evernote says you don’t have to already be connected with someone in order for the feature to work.

From the Evernote blog:

“After scanning their card, you’ll have the option to connect on LinkedIn, share your own contact information, or save the new person’s info as a contact in your device’s address book.”

LinkedIn acquired business card scanning app CardMunch in January 2011, and will be discontinuing the service on July 11, 2014.

Evernote says the new integration is rolling out today to iPhone and iPad with a later roll out to other supported platforms. While a Premium account was required for scanning business cards, it’s offering a complimentary year of the feature to free accounts.
