Ellie Goulding — we love her. She is the ethereal wind chime-hummingbird to our ears and hearts. She is the pop princess who constantly lives in a world of colorful bokeh lights and tangible feeling, and her songs just take us to another place that just turns us into energy.
Now take her, and combine her vocal stylistics with Hozier’s hit single “Take Me To Church”, and you’ve got us on our knees all over again. It has more than 125,000 views on Youtube, and over a million hits on Soundcloud, and the numbers just aren’t quitting anytime soon.
I mean, come on guys. Hozier had us slain with this song to begin with. It’s graced our radios for so many times, and yet, we just can’t seem to get enough of the compelling powerful lyrics and the raw emotion in the vocals. And then a music video directed by David LaChapelle featuring bad-ass ballet dancer Sergei Polunin focusing on the song happened, and we were floored all over again. The video has hit over eight million views and counting, and we just can’t stop loving it.
Ellie Goulding is the perfect artist to cover this emotional ballad. Its lyrics are rife with sociopolitical and romantic messages, and its music just tugs at the almighty yardarms of our hearts. Goulding takes this song and gives it her signature digital glitter arrangements, soft mechanical drops, and unique mystical touch — she’s turned into a song that’s all entirely hers, and we love her for that.
Even Hozier himself is all applause for this ethereal pop princess’s rendition of the song. check out his tweet:
