On September 3, a man named Matthew Cordle shared a confession on YouTube admitting he killed a man, Vincent Canzani, while drunk driving.
Popular blog because I said I would posted the confession to its YouTube account, and it currently has over two million views.
Matt had already been facing charges of aggravated vehicular manslaughter, and driving under the influence after crashing into Vincent Canzani’s vehicle, but felt the need to come clean.
Today in court, he decided to plead guilty just one week after pleading not guilty.
On the night of the accident, Matt’s blood alcohol level was over twice the legal limit, and he claims to have blacked out.
Hospital staff helped to back up this claim, and said that he did not seem aware he was just in a car accident.
As far as why Matt first pleaded not guilty, assistant prosecutor Keith McGrath said that in order to be assigned a random judge in Franklin County Ohio, you have to first enter into a not guilty plea.
Matt’s sentencing hearing is set for October 10, and the 22-year-old could face between two and eight-and-a-half years in prison, an up to $1,675 fine, and lifetime driver’s license suspension under the aggravated vehicular manslaughter charge.
