A deal has been reached over Iran’s nuclear program by the country and six major powers. The deal was reached early Sunday and announced on Twitter by several diplomats, including Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, who wrote:
Iranian people’s vote for #moderation constructive engagement + tireless efforts by negotiating teams are to open new horizons. #IranTalks

The agreement was sealed at a 3 am signing ceremony in Geneva’s Palace of Nations. The Washington Post reports that the deal requires Iran to halt or scale back portions of its nuclear infrastructure for the first time in over a decade. France, Germany, Britain, China, Russia, the European Union, and the United States all participated in the talks, which began last week.
Despite a last-minute intervention from US Secretary of State John Kerry, it appeared the deal wouldn’t be closed in negotiations this weekend. While “98 percent” of the deal was done, Iran told reporters it wouldn’t accept any agreement that didn’t recognize its “uranium enrichment rights.”
As news broke of a deal being reached with Iran, users took to Twitter to express their thoughts:

A nuclear agreement is a preliminary step in a long road to normalizing Iran-US relations. Amazing first step though #Iran #IranTalks — Reza H. Akbari (@rezahakbari) November 24, 2013
Worth reminding people that tonight’s historic #irantalks agreement is just the beginning, not the end, of the process. — Andy Carvin (@acarvin) November 24, 2013
While most of the tweets were optimistic, some cautiously so, others weren’t so thrilled:
