Dale Earnhardt Jr. Joins Twitter After Daytona 500 Win

Twitter Sees Dale Earnhardt Jr

Dale Earnhardt Jr. joined Twitter on Sunday night after he won the rain-delayed Daytona 500, fulfilling a promise he gave to former Dale Earnhardt Inc. teammate Michael Waltrip. It’s only fitting that his first tweet was a selfie he took in Victory Lane with the the trophy awarded to the champion of the Great American Race.

Hendrick Motorsports also captured Dale’s selfie/victory moment with a tweet of its own.

It isn’t a surprise that Earnhardt joined Twitter, since the micro-blogging service is becoming more popular with NASCAR drivers, their fans, and teams. He also joked prior to the race that he would join if he won. Finally, an account was already established for him and amassed 230,000 followers before he sent a single tweet. The driver has sent three since then, including another selfie while standing in front of a statue of his father, Dale Earnhardt, who died in the last lap of the 2001 Daytona 500.

Michael Waltrip congratulated Dale Earnhardt Jr. on Monday morning for his foray into Twitter.

Jr. already has more than 300,000 followers, and his numbers will only continue to grow.
