Danbury, Connecticut Mayor Mark Boughton had a serious problem on his hands Tuesday morning. There was a bear stuck in a tree behind the Bishop Curtis Homes retirement community. To make matters worse, the animal didn’t want to come down. A task force to deal with the problem was quickly assembled.
In an effort to keep everyone abreast of the situation, Mayor Boughton decided to live tweet during the rescue operation. While the Danbury Fire Department and the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) was busy getting the bear to fall into a net, he was firing off posts on the social media.
Below you can find a handful of tweets from Danbury, Connecticut’s dramatic and daring bear rescue mission. The whole thing wouldn’t be nearly as fun were it not for Mayor Boughton’s tone. Spot-on perfection.
For those curious about the bear: Officials plan to take the animal back into the woods and let it go. The animal lives and the world gets an amusing story. It’s a win-win situation. What’s more, I have officially followed the mayor of a town I’ve never visited simply because he’s hilarious.
We have a very large bear stuck in a tree behind the Bishop Curtis Homes. – seriously. #Danbury

What do you think about the Danbury, Connecticut mayor who live tweeted during a recent bear rescue? Do you wish your mayor was this cool?

I think that it is a bit odd, and he is going to probably be criticized for it; but I don't see too much wrong with it. The only thing that I would think is off is that it did not seem to have much, if any professionalism, and if it is an account that he uses as mayor, I would have expected a bit more professionalism. I don't see anything "wrong" with it though.
This is my home town. He posts like this all the time. Always refers to himself as big poppa. Used to be a high school teacher. Nobody here minds how he posts. Never any criticism for his posts.
