The actor explained that he doesn’t have any social media accounts and has no plans to sign up anytime soon. Pine explained, “I have no interest in that. With Facebook and Twitter everyone wants to publicize their innermost truths. In 2014 we are seeing the true dissolution of public and private.”
Still, Pine admires celebrities who use their Twitter accounts for good. He admires Dwayne Johnson and other celebrities. The Star Trek actor also appreciates how the networks have played roles in movements like The Arab Spring. He explained, “There are wonderful things to do with that medium. I just don’t have any interest in it.”
The actor also suggested that social media is taking away from reality and adding to the need for people to compare their lives to those of people around them. Chris Pine commented, “The authentic experience, where is that? Living in the moment. That is something that we’re losing.”
Pine isn’t the only celebrity who has sworn off social media. You won’t see Jennifer Lawrence or Amy Poehler tweeting or posting status updates either.
